The 2024-2025 International Series is presented in part
with support from the Roy Minoff Family Fund.
Two time Latin Grammy nominee, guitarist, educator, and composer João Luiz is one half of audience favorite Brasil Guitar Duo, and now gives his first solo concert for CCGS. João has performed extensively in the United States, Asia, Europe and Latin America and has performed with luminaries such as Yo-Yo Ma and Carlos Prieto. João has recorded more than fifteen CDs playing solo, duo, trio and in quartet, most of which have featured his arrangements of classical or Brazilian works. Equally at home with classical, Brazilian and world music, João Luiz brings incredible musicianship to our stage! Please note: although most concerts are on Saturdays, this concert is on a Friday.
This program, entitled Brazil Meets Cuba, will include the world premiere of new works by acclaimed composers Leo Brouwer, Sérgio Assad, and Ronaldo Miranda.
João's innate understanding of the idiomatic nuances within these musical styles, rooted in his Brazilian heritage, made this creative journey seamless and his accomplishments truly impeccable." Sérgio Assad, Guitarist and Composer (Brazil)
