This performance marks the Cleveland debut of DUO NOIRE. Duo Noire is a “virtuosic pair” (I Care if You Listen) of the pioneering American classical guitarists, Thomas Flippin and Christopher Mallett. Offering “profoundly enjoyable” premieres of genre-bending contemporary music with “spectacular precision” (St. Louis Post- Dispatch), Duo Noire is breaking new ground in the world of classical guitar.

This concert marks the in-person Cleveland debut of Paraguayan guitarist BERTA ROJAS. Berta ranks among today’s foremost classical guitarists. She has been praised as a “guitarist extraordinaire” by the Washington Post and as an “ambassador of the classical guitar” by Classical Guitar Magazine. Berta has been nominated three times for a Latin Grammy Award (in the categories of Best Instrumental Album, Best Classical Album, and Best Tango Album).

Recognized as one of the USA’s finest classical guitarists, double Grammy winner WILLIAM KANENGISER instills each piece he plays with a dramatic, narrative intention. With his unique ability to make the guitar imitate a panoply of colors and instruments, he evokes far-flung locales and tells poignant musical stories. William was First Prize Winner in the 1987 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, as well as in major international guitar competitions in Toronto (1981) and Paris (1983). He is known for developing a unique and individual repertoire for his instrument, ranging from arrangements of Mozart, Handel, and Bartok, to his innovative excursions into jazz and word-music styles.
