About CCGS

Cleveland Classical Guitar Society (CCGS) was established in 2002 by classical guitarists eager to share their craft and passion. In 2009, the mission expanded through what is now the International Series, showcasing the world’s greatest musicians to large regional audiences. To date, musicians presented on this series represent 25 countries and 35 Cleveland debuts.

In 2012, CCGS introduced the Education Program in response to the limited access to instrumental music instruction in Cleveland schools. Students have gone on to Cleveland School of the Arts and prestigious camps and fellowships. They have appeared on national and local news. A story produced by Cleveland Metropolitan School District on CCGS’s program won a 2021 regional Emmy. CCGS is one of only six organizations in the Cleveland Foundation’s Arts Mastery Initiative.

Students have performed at Cleveland’s most prestigious venues and events. CCGS students were commissioned to write and record the theme music for the podcast series The Asterisk*, presented by the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, the only American book prize focusing on works that address racism and diversity. Recognizing the importance of representation in composition, CCGS has commissioned 49 new works by BIPOC composers, many of which have been premiered by CCGS students and alumni.

Our Mission is to…

TEACH: CCGS creates life-changing experiences for Cleveland’s kids.

It is entirely free, including exceptional instructors, instruments, curriculum, and more. Students have gone on to Cleveland School of the Arts, Interlochen and Brevard summer camps, and fellowships with the Cleveland Institute of Music and Guitar Foundation of America.
