Sérgio Assad, acclaimed worldwide as a virtuoso guitarist, composer, and arranger, has forged an extraordinary career both as a soloist and alongside his brother Odair in the Assad Brothers Guitar Duo, renowned for their work with Yo-Yo Ma and multiple Grammy Awards. Throughout his illustrious career, Sérgio has made significant contributions to the classical guitar repertoire, composing more than three hundred works that have become standards in the genre. In 2008, Sérgio received the prestigious Latin Grammy Award for his original composition “Tahhyya Li Ossoulina,” while other works have been nominated for Grammy Awards, reflecting the breadth and depth of his musical contributions.
A powerful communicator renowned for her musical scope and versatility, Sergio’s oldest daughter, Clarice Assad, is a significant artistic voice in the classical, world music, pop, and jazz genres. Clarice is acclaimed for her evocative colors, rich textures, and diverse stylistic range. Like her father, Clarice is a prolific Grammy Award–nominated composer with more than 70 works to her credit.
This concert presents a very special reunion of a father and daughter who are unlike any other. The idea for this collaborative venture came from Sérgio, who dreamt of introducing multiple generations of the family on stage together, performing a century of Brazilian music of disparate styles.
Clarice Assad is quite simply a phenomenon who has streaked across the world’s musical landscape like one of those comets that appear just once in a lifetime.”Latin Jazz Network
There is no one like the Assads (Sergio and Odair) in the world of music for either the scope of their interests or the depth or the musicianship or technical abilities.”Seattle Post
